Ambivalent about history

Are we allowing ourselves to be held captive by history ?

Is it so difficult to keep only the necessary ,
erase the unnecessary ,
and start on a clean slate ?

Just a question to mull over carefully .

Very interesting thoughts.
Yes we are "allowing ourselves to be held captive by history" which is the main cause of our present social problems.
I believe that history is the dynamic force for the future; history sacrifices itself to breath new life to the future therefore it is necessary to cherish history for a better future. So if were to "start on clean slate" then we are in essence negating the future. Therefore, I believe, all of history is necessary to help us in pursuing a better future. And in reality history consist of two essential elements; the present and future which are only a representation of the natural rights of the marvels of human intellect, in pursuing its divine journey.

Assalamualaikum Akash

It is pleasure for me to continue the thread.
This issue is extremely important in respect to fanatism and extremism in the world today. Everything in this world has rights, incliuding history. The rights of history towards us I believe is to put it into perspective and to study it in terms of its universal fundamentals that is time and space. The events of history are essntailly influenced by those two principles; time and space, of our world. Therefore we must embrace histroy thorugh its two principles otherwise we would strip history of its rights. Then consequently, we would embrace history for purposeless future. Extremists often impose ancient practises upon people due to their intellectual impotence in respecting our history and to properly employ it within its new principles "time and space"

God Bless you always.

Thank you
